EEOC Charges Decrease from Last Year

The Equal Employment Opportunities Commission has published state by state and category by category totals for charges of discrimination.  In Maryland, the overall number of charges decreased from 2,927 to 2,301 between fiscal year 2010 and 2011, a 21% decrease.  As always, race discrimination totals are highest, with gender and retaliation also constituting more than a quarter of the charges. (Some people file under multiple categories, of course; this is especially expected with retaliation charges.)

Despite the decrease in claims, investigation time lags, as the number of investigators is insufficient for the volume of charges made in this State.
